How to Write Website Content

5 simple tips on how to write and organize website content.

Aside from a quality custom website design that fits your business brand, the most important part of your website is its content. One of the most frequent questions we get is about building a website is “how to write website content”.

Since we frequently answer this question we decided it would be best to develop a simple, short guide on how to write website content in a step by step system.

5 Steps on How to Write Website Content

  1. PRODUCT / SERVICES PAGE: Write down every service and product that you sell. You don’t need to be detailed, just a simple list. Prioritize the list from most important to least important. This page will provide links to these products / services. If you have a lot of products this page will show the categories of products.
  2. ABOUT US PAGE: Write down 5 main points about your business and what makes you different than your competition. Think of your core values, mission statement and what your customers say about your business.
  3. CONTACT PAGE: Write out all the contact information you think your customers will need to find on your website. This may include your mailing address, phone number, fax and facebook and twitter page URL’s.
  4. PORTFOLIO / AWARDS / ETC. If you have any award, testimonials or a portfolio that you can share with your customers, it’s important to write out and organize what will be on this page.
  5. HOMEPAGE: The homepage is usually the most prevalent page in your website. Think of this as the starting point for you visitors. If your objective is to collect leads from your website, your homepage content should be organized in a way that gives visitors immediate links to the main sections of your website, as well as a place / information to immediately contact you.

Each page we have described above should be thought of as your “main sections” of your website. Any additional pages you can think of should be “sub categorized” under these main sections. So for example if you wanted to have a “company history” page, you could add the link to this page from the about us page.

Naturally, every business is different – and may therefore change your requirements. But this gives you a simple, yet powerful overview of how to write website content for your website. It even gives you some insight onto how to organize your main pages.
