Let’s talk about engagement. “Experts” will tell you that it’s a great way grow your brand’s presence on social media, but what is engagement exactly?

We’ll use Facebook as an example. Engagement is any action someone takes on your Facebook Page or a on a post you shared. Think interactions: i.e. likes, shares, comments, and follows.

So why is engagement important? Typically, the more engagement a post receives, the more likely Facebook’s algorithm is going to reward it with reach, which means it will be seen by more people!

There are many ways to get more engagement on your Facebook page, but here are 5 tips to help you increase engagement on Facebook organically.

1. Find the right time to post

By posting when your followers are most active, you instantly increase the likelihood of getting likes and comments simply because they are more likely to see it! If you post at a time where your followers are not active, chances are their feed will be filled up by more recent posts or content from pages that the Facebook algorithm has determined they frequently engage with.

2. Keep your posts relevant

Post about what your followers are interested in. If they follow you, it’s probably for a specific reason. By keeping your content relevant to your services or brand, you’re giving your followers what they came to your page for.

3. Use prompts

This is perhaps one of the easiest ways to increase engagement on your page – literally ask for it! Ask questions, create polls, or even host giveaways!

4. Use compelling images or videos

Sometimes a great image or video can make all the difference in someone stopping to interact with your content or just scrolling on by to the next post on their feed.

5. Engage back!

Another trick is to engage back! Reply to and like comments, answer questions, share content from other pages, etc. People are more likely to engage with an active page than with one they never expect to hear back from.

A word to the wise

While these tips are a great way to get some engagement from your current followers, posting can only get you so far. Yes, it’s nice when your friends and family comment on your posts, but chances are they probably aren’t the ones you want to target with your products or services.

If you’re looking to really grow your page and get engagement from people outside of those who already follow you, it’s time to start advertising! Through specific targeting options social advertising can help put your brand in front the right people and get you the engagement that really matters.
